In this PR, when the camera changes, we check whether the pointer's page
position has actually changed before triggering a pointer move event.
This means that the pointer move will not fire while zooming in and out.
### Change Type
- [x] `sdk` — Changes the tldraw SDK
- [x] `improvement` — Improving existing features
### Test Plan
1. Zoom in and out.
2. The performance tab should not see any calls to `updateHoveredShape`
or other pointer move related events.
### Release Notes
- Improve performance of zooming.
When geo shape has no url or text we don't show the html container
containing the label and link. This results in 3 fewer dom nodes per
empty geo shape (going from 7 to 4). Similarly for an arrow without the
text label we go from 13 to 10.
First paint experience with 2000 empty rectangle shapes
Before: 1.5-1.6s
After: 1.2-1.3s
2000 rectangles shapes with text is similar between the two, around
3.6s.

### Release Notes
- Reduce the number of rendered dom nodes for geo shapes and arrows

This PR tweaks the logic of _when_ we update the viewport screen bounds.
Previously, we updated every one second in order to capture any changes
to the viewport's screen position. In this PR, we _check_ every one
second and update the screen bounds if the viewport's screen position
has actually changed. Since we also update the rendering shapes when
this happens, it would cause the rendering / culling shapes to update
while the camera was moving.
I've also removed the "maximum time before we start culling shapes", as
this wasn't very useful and could also cause frames to start dropping
without recovering.

Adds logging of message size in worker analytics.
This also adds the environment to worker analytics as `blob2`. We need
this because previously, all the analytics from all environments were
going to the same place with no ability to tell them apart, which means
we can't easily compare analytics on e.g. a particular PR.
This means that all the other blobs get shifted along one, so we won't
be able to query across the boundary of when this gets released for
those properties. I think this is fine though - it's things like
`roomId` that I don't think we were querying on anyway.
You can query the analytics through grafana - [docs

Our font styling for dotcom vs. our examples app is _ever_ so slightly
different.
- the Inter fonts weren't being consistently linked. Sometimes we
grabbed 700, sometimes 800, sometimes 500 or 400
- the dotcom specified a default weight of 500 and line-height 1.6 which
was not specified in the our UI. this made the UI inconsistent
- furthermore, we didn't specify `text-rendering` nor `font-smooth` and
that also made things inconsistent
- finally, our buttons needed to inherit the line-height because
otherwise they were reverting to the user agent default

This is the first of three textfield changes. This starts with making

and how that would be wired up.

### Change Type
- [x] `minor` — New feature
### Release Notes
- Refactor textfields be composable/swappable.
Adds reference docs, guide in the "Editor" article, and examples for the
side effects manager.
There are 4 new examples:
1. Before create/update shape - constrains shapes to be places within a
circle
2. Before delete shape - prevent red shapes from being deleted
3. After create/update shape - make sure there's only ever one red shape
on the page at a time
4. After delete shape - delete frames after their last child is deleted
As these examples all require fairly specific configurations of shapes
(or are hard to understand without some visual hinting in the case of
placing shapes within a circle), I've included a `createDemoShapes`
function in each of these which makes sure the examples start with
shapes that will quickly show you the side effects in action. I've kept
these separate from the main code (in a function at the bottom), so
hopefully that won't be a source of confusion to anyone working from
these examples.

We allowed the users to customize pretty much all of our components, but
not the `DebugPanel`. We had overrides for `DebugMenu` which is
displayed inside the panel, but not for the panel itself.
I guess it makes sense to allow users to override both?

## Migration path
1. If any of your shapes implement `toSvg` for exports, you'll need to
replace your implementation with a new version that returns JSX (it's a
react component) instead of manually constructing SVG DOM nodes
2. `editor.getSvg` is deprecated. It still works, but will be going away
in a future release. If you still need SVGs as DOM elements rather than
strings, use `new DOMParser().parseFromString(svgString,
'image/svg+xml').firstElementChild`
## The change in detail
At the moment, our SVG exports very carefully try to recreate the
visuals of our shapes by manually constructing SVG DOM nodes. On its own
this is really painful, but it also results in a lot of duplicated logic
between the `component` and `getSvg` methods of shape utils.
In #3020, we looked at using string concatenation & DOMParser to make
this a bit less painful. This works, but requires specifying namespaces
everywhere, is still pretty painful (no syntax highlighting or
formatting), and still results in all that duplicated logic.
I briefly experimented with creating my own version of the javascript
language that let you embed XML like syntax directly. I was going to
call it EXTREME JAVASCRIPT or XJS for short, but then I noticed that we
already wrote the whole of tldraw in this thing called react and a (imo
much worse named) version of the javascript xml thing already existed.
Given the entire library already depends on react, what would it look
like if we just used react directly for these exports? Turns out things
get a lot simpler! Take a look at lmk what you think
This diff was intended as a proof of concept, but is actually pretty
close to being landable. The main thing is that here, I've deliberately
leant into this being a big breaking change to see just how much code we
could delete (turns out: lots). We could if we wanted to make this
without making it a breaking change at all, but it would add back a lot
of complexity on our side and run a fair bit slower

The `title` attribute is currently missing in production. It was using
`title` when it should have been using `titleStr`
This also nixes the `title` attribute which is used just twice in the
codebase — probably not necessary to have a different title/label but
lemme know if you disagree.
Adds this behavior back in:

This PR changes the way `Store.squashHistoryEntries` works. Previously,
the function would iterate through every entry and squash it against the
current entry (using `squashRecordDiffs`) to get the new current entry.
However, `squashRecordDiffs` does basically the same pattern, iterating
through the properties of every diff. As a result, each diff would be
iterated through twice: once as itself, and once again in the next
current.
This PR tweaks the function to operate on as many diffs as possible at
once.

### Release Notes
- Minor improvement when modifying multiple shapes at once.
This diff mostly adds an image annotator example, but also has a couple
of drive-by changes:
- Added a 'use-cases' category to the examples app for this style of
mini-app
- Add `editor.pageToViewport`, which is like `editor.pageToScreen` but
works with viewport coordinates (better for `InFrontOfTheCanvas` stuff)
- Prevent the chrome side-swipe-to-go-back thing in the examples app
Some cool features of the image annotator:
- The image cannot be unlocked, and cannot have shapes places behind it
- I still need to work out a way of removing the context menu though
- Anything you place outside the bounds of the image (and therefore
outside the bounds of the export) will be greyed out
- You can't change pages
- unless you find the "move to page" action... need to fix that
- The camera is constrained! It'll keep the image roughly centered on
the screen. If you pick a very long thin image, you can only scroll
vertically. If you pick a very big one, it'll default it to a reasonable
size.

Currently, we only use native `structuredClone` in the browser, falling
back to `JSON.parse(JSON.stringify(...))` elsewhere, despite Node
supporting `structuredClone` [since
v17](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/structuredClone)
and Cloudflare Workers supporting it [since
2022](https://blog.cloudflare.com/standards-compliant-workers-api/).
This PR adjusts our shim to use the native `structuredClone` on all
platforms, if available.
Additionally, `jsdom` doesn't implement `structuredClone`, a bug [open
since 2022](https://github.com/jsdom/jsdom/issues/3363). This PR patches
`jsdom` environment in all packages/apps that use it for tests.
Also includes a driveby removal of `deepCopy`, a function that is
strictly inferior to `structuredClone`.

We were listening to the `tick` event directly from the state node,
rather than passing the event into the state chart at the top. This
meant that it was bypassing the regular state chart rules, which was
what got me looking at this; but then I noticed that we also weren't
batching the changes, either. This causes computed stuff to re-compute
after each atom is updated within the `onTick` handler, which can be a
LOT.

- move the dpr check up out of the shapes themselves, avoiding renders
on instance state changes
Culled shapes:
- move the props setting on the culled shape component to a layout
reactor
- no longer set the height / width on the culled shape component
- no longer update the culled shape component when the shape changes
Random:
- move the arrow shape defs to the arrow shape util (using that neat API
we didn't used to have)

### Test Plan
1. Use the style panel
2. Change the them
This PR makes a few tiny improvements to the way that selection page
bounds and rotated page bounds are calculated.
For bounds, we bail once we find a different rotation among the selected
shapes. Previously, we grabbed all of the rotations first before
comparing them; we only need to grab rotations until we find a rotation
that's different from the first one.
For rotating page bounds, we only look at the corners of the calculated
bounds, and we mutate the resulting points after we transform them.
Previously, we looked at all vertices and make a copy of the points when
rotating them. The transform already creates the copy, so we can mutate
it; and while the bounds are usually calculated from the vertices, using
the corners gives us fewer points to transform.

When we went from overrides-based to component based UI customisation
APIs, we didn't do the toolbar because it had some significant extra
complexity around overflowing the contents of the menu into the
dropdown. This is really hard to do at render-time with react - you
can't introspect what a component will return to move some of it into an
overflow.
Instead, this diff runs that logic in a `useLayoutEffect` - we render
all the items into both the main toolbar and the overflow menu, then in
the effect (or if the rendered components change) we use CSS to remove
the items we don't need, check which was last active, etc. Originally, I
wasn't really into this approach - but i've actually found it to work
super well and be very reliable.

several things here:
- `docs/api/.*json` were out-of-date — seems like fetch-api-source
should run automatically? shouldn't `build-api` also override this
directory? in particular, tldraw.api.json still had a ton of references
to the old @tldraw/tldraw package
- the main problem was that `generateApiContent` was failing silently.
we were relying on Promises and this broke silently because we never
handled exceptions. i got rid of the Promise as it was unnecessary and
made the exceptions bubble up
- two things were broken in the docs and those are fixed, so now the
missing entries will resurface

This PR:
- adds the export all menu items to the main menu
- removes the export all menu items from the dotcom menus
- removes the shape menu and reverts several changes from
https://github.com/tldraw/tldraw/pull/2782. This was not properly
reviewed (I thought it was a PR about hiding / showing menu items).
- fixes a bug with exporting (exporting JSON was not working when the
user had no selected shapes)
- fixes a bug that would prevent "flip shapes" from appearing in the
menu
- prevents export / copy actions from running if there are no shapes on
the page
- allows export / copy actions to default to all shapes on the page if
no shapes are selected
These changes have not been released in the dotcom yet. There's will be
some thrash in the APIs.
# Menu philosophy
In the menu, the **edit** submenu relates to undo/redo, plus the user's
current selection.
Menu items that relate to specific to certain shapes are hidden when not
available.
Menu items that relate to all shapes are disabled when not available.

This PR does a few things to help with performance:
1. Instead of doing changes on raf we now do them 60 times per second.
This limits the number of updates on high refresh rate screens like the
iPad. With the current code this only applied to the history updates (so
when you subscribed to the updates), but the next point takes this a bit
futher.
2. We now trigger react updates 60 times per second. This is a change in
`useValue` and `useStateTracking` hooks.
3. We now throttle the inputs (like the `pointerMove`) in state nodes.
This means we batch multiple inputs and only apply them at most 60 times
per second.
We had to adjust our own tests to pass after this change so I marked
this as major as it might require the users of the library to do the
same.
Few observations:
- The browser calls the raf callbacks when it can. If it gets
overwhelmed it will call them further and further apart. As things call
down it will start calling them more frequently again. You can clearly
see this in the drawing example. When fps gets to a certain level we
start to get fewer updates, then fps can recover a bit. This makes the
experience quite janky. The updates can be kinda ok one second (dropping
frames, but consistently) and then they can completely stop and you have
to let go of the mouse to make them happen again. With the new logic it
seems everything is a lot more consistent.
- We might look into variable refresh rates to prevent this overtaxing
of the browser. Like when we see that the times between our updates are
getting higher we could make the updates less frequent. If we then see
that they are happening more often we could ramp them back up. I had an
[experiment for this
here](4834863966 (diff-318e71563d7c47173f89ec084ca44417cf70fc72faac85b96f48b856a8aec466L30-L35)).

Steve tried this in #3043, but we reverted it in #3063. Steve's version
added `JSON.parse`/`JSON.stringify` to the helpers without checking for
where we were already `JSON.parse`ing (or not). In some places we just
store strings directly rather than wanting them jsonified, so in this
version we leave the jsonification to the callers - the helpers just do
the reading/writing and return the string values.

This PR lets firefox users scroll the keyboard shortcuts dialog
**horizontally**.
This isn't a real solution, just a plea for help for any ideas on how to
fix this in a better way.
Firefox users haven't been able to scroll the keyboard shortcuts dialog
for a long time.
The problem is that firefox handles overflowing column content
differently to other browsers. Most browsers overflow *downwards*, but
firefox overflows *sideways*, and there's no CSS property to control
that behaviour.

window. This is a feature that we added very early on during testing,
but which we should have moved out of the library earlier. Adding it

If you've relied on this, you'll need to update your use of the library

as i look into textfields the places where we are using them are
out-of-sync at the moment. this brings them in line with each other for
further refactoring later.
### Change Type
- [x] `patch` — Bug fix
By default, tldraw's brushing mode will select when the box intersects
an shape's geometry. A user can hold Command / Ctrl to require that the
selection box fully contain a shape's bounds instead.
Some people really prefer the opposite. Three years! Three years I've
been saying "no no no".
This PR adds a user preference to flip the logic. When `isWrapMode` is
true, selection requires that the box completely contain a shape before
it's added to the list of selecting shapes; and ctrl flips back to
intersection instead.
### Change Type

### Test Plan

3. Use the ctrl key to except the behavior back to intersection.

### Testing
It's a bit hard to test this, you actually need to change the code a
bit.
1. Add an `onMount` handler to the `Tldraw` component in `develop.tsx`
2. In the `onMount` handler add:
`editor.updateInstanceState({canMoveCamera: false})` to freeze the
camera.
3. Make sure edge scrolling is turned on in the preferences.
4. Use brush selections / resizing / translating close to the edges.
5. The camera should not move.
### Release Notes
- Don't allow edge scrolling when camera is frozen.
I'm bringing the sockets example up to date and ran into some issues
that were tricky to resolve in userland but trivial to resolve in
packageland.
Gonna collect them here.

In #2856, we moved changed line handles into an array of points. This
introduced an issue where some concurrent operations wouldn't work
because they array indexes change. We need some sort of stable way of
referring to these points. Our existing fractional indexing system is a
good fit.
In this version, instead of making the points be a map from index to
x/y, we make the points be a map from id (the index) to
x/y/index/id(also index). This is "kinda silly" (steve's words) but
might be more familiar to devs who are expecting maps to be keyed on IDs
rather than anything else.

This PR fixes the custom keyboard shortcut dialog example.
Previously, the custom menu item wasn't appearing in the menu because it
didn't have a shortcut associated with it. (we filter out any actions
without one).
I fixed it by adding a smiley face. I tried adding a real shortcut, but
I think it made the example too complicated. So I decided on a fake
smiley face instead! After all, the example is demonstrating how to
customise the UI, not how to add an action.

We had some bad logic in `useRelevantStyles` explicitly allowing an
opacity-slider to be rendered at all times when there is at least one
shape selected.
This shouldn't be the case when the editor is in non-shape-focused tools
like the move tool and the laser pointer tool. I refactored the hook
slightly to make it easier to express the correct logic. See the comment
for a more detailed description.

This PR adds a validation mode whereby previous known-to-be-valid values
can be used to speed up the validation process itself. At the same time
it enables us to do fine-grained equality checking on records much more
quickly than by using something like lodash isEqual, and using that we
can prevent triggering effects for record updates that don't actually
alter any values in the store.
Here's some preliminary perf testing of average time spent in
`store.put()` during some common interactions
| task | before (ms) | after (ms) |
| ---- | ---- | ---- |
| drawing lines | 0.0403 | 0.0214 |
| drawing boxes | 0.0408 | 0.0348 |
| translating lines | 0.0352 | 0.0042 |
| translating boxes | 0.0051 | 0.0032 |
| rotating lines | 0.0312 | 0.0065 |
| rotating boxes | 0.0053 | 0.0035 |
| brush selecting boxes | 0.0200 | 0.0232 |
| traversal with shapes | 0.0130 | 0.0108 |
| traversal without shapes | 0.0201 | 0.0173 |
**traversal** means moving the camera and pointer around the canvas
#### Discussion
At the scale of hundredths of a millisecond these .put operations are so
fast that even if they became literally instantaneous the change would
not be human perceptible. That said, there is an overall marked
improvement here. Especially for dealing with draw shapes.
These figures are also mostly in line with expectations, aside from a
couple of things:
- I don't understand why the `brush selecting boxes` task got slower
after the change.
- I don't understand why the `traversal` tasks are slower than the
`translating boxes` task, both before and after. I would expect that
.putting shape records would be much slower than .putting pointer/camera
records (since the latter have fewer and simpler properties)

This diff adds a self-snapping API for handles. Self-snapping is used
when a shape's handles want to snap to the shape itself. By default,
this isn't allowed because moving the handle might move the snap point,
which creates a janky user experience.
Now, shapes can return customised versions of their normal handle
snapping geometry in these cases. As a bonus, line shapes now snap to
other handles on their own line!

---
In the future, I'd love to add a tiny eslint rule that enforces this for
string literals. We accept strings in `msg` because it makes it easier
for consumers (and us) to add custom labels, etc.
Or... if @mimecuvalo does some bigger work on translations, we might

### Change Type
- [x] `major`
Adds the ability to change document names in the top center part of the
UI. This mostly brings back the functionality we already had in the
past.
This is basically a port of what @SomeHats did a while back. I changed
the dropdown options and removed some of the things (we are not dealing
with network requests directly so some of that logic did not apply any
longer). We did have autosave back then, not sure if we want to bring
that back?
Changes the `exportAs` api, thus braking.

This PR adds the `TldrawImage` component that displays a tldraw snapshot
as an SVG image.

## Why
We've seen requests for this kind of thing from users. eg: GitBook, and
on discord:
<img width="710" alt="image"
src="https://github.com/tldraw/tldraw/assets/15892272/3d3a3e9d-66b9-42e7-81de-a70aa7165bdc">
The component provides a way to do that.
This PR also untangles various bits of editor state from image
exporting, which makes it easier for library users to export images more
agnostically. (ie: they can now export any shapes on any page in any
theme. previously, they had to change the user's state to do that).
## What else
- This PR also adds an **Image snapshot** example to demonstrate the new
component.
- We now pass an `isDarkMode` property to the `toSvg` method (inside the
`ctx` argument). This means that `toSvg` doesn't have to rely on editor
state anymore. I updated all our `toSvg` methods to use it.
- See code comments for more info.
## Any issues?
When you toggle to editing mode in the new example, text measurements
are initially wrong (until you edit the size of a text shape). Click on
the text shape to see how its indicator is wrong. Not sure why this is,
or if it's even related. Does it ring a bell with anyone? If not, I'll
take a closer look. (fixed, see comments --steve)
## Future work
Now that we've untangled image exporting from editor state, we could
expose some more helpful helpers for making this easier.

Currently, geo shapes have slightly janky handle-snapping: they snap to
label geometry (even though its invisible) and because they extend from
`BaseBoxShapeUtil` they snap to the corners of their bounding box (even
if that's not where the actual shape is).
With this PR, we no longer snap to labels, and we snap to the actual
vertices of the geo shape rather than its bounding points.

### Release Notes
- You can now snap the handles of lines to the corners of rectangles,
stars, triangles, etc.
Currently, when dragging line handles they'll snap to the outlines of
other shapes, but not to their vertices. This can make it hard to snap
precisely to certain key places, like the handles of other lines, or the
corners of `geo` shapes.
This diff adds a new snap type for handles - snapping to points:

### Release Notes
- Line handles
This diff adds an API for customising our existing snap types. These
are:
1. Bound snapping. When translating or resizing a shape, it'll snap to
certain key points on the bounds of particular shapes. Previously, these
were hard-coded to the corners and center of the bounding box of the
shape. Now, a shape can bring its own (e.g. a triangle may add snapping
for its 3 corners, and it's centroid rather than bounding box center.
2. Handle outline snapping. When dragging a handle, it'll snap to the
outline of other shapes geometry. Now, shapes can return different
geometry for this sort of snapping if they like.
Each of these is customised through a method on `ShapeUtil`:
`getBoundsSnapGeometry` and `getHandleSnapGeometry`. These return
interfaces describing the different geometry that can be snapped to in
both these cases. Currently, each returns an object with a single
property, but there are more types of snapping coming in follow-up PRs.
When reviewing this PR, start with the definitions of
`BoundsSnapGeometry` in `BoundsSnaps.ts` and `HandleSnapGeometry` in
`HandleSnaps.ts`
This doesn't add point snapping - i'll add that in a follow-up! It'll be
customisable with the `getHandleSnapGeometry` API.

- Add `ShapeUtil.getSnapInfo` for customising shape snaps.
This PR refactors our menu systems and provides an interface to hide or
replace individual user interface elements.
# Background
Previously, we've had two types of overrides:
- "schema" overrides that would allow insertion or replacement of items
in the different menus
- "component" overrides that would replace components in the editor's
user interface
This PR is an attempt to unify the two and to provide for additional
cases where the "schema-based" user interface had begun to break down.
# Approach
This PR makes no attempt to change the `actions` or `tools`
overrides—the current system seems to be correct for those because they
are not reactive. The challenge with the other ui schemas is that they
_are_ reactive, and thus the overrides both need to a) be fed in from
outside of the editor as props, and b) react to changes from the editor,
which is an impossible situation.
The new approach is to use React to declare menu items. (Surprise!)
```tsx
function CustomHelpMenuContent() {
return (
<>
<DefaultHelpMenuContent />
<TldrawUiMenuGroup id="custom stuff">
<TldrawUiMenuItem
id="about"
label="Like my posts"
icon="external-link"
readonlyOk
onSelect={() => {
window.open('https://x.com/tldraw', '_blank')
}}
/>
</TldrawUiMenuGroup>
</>
)
}
const components: TLComponents = {
HelpMenuContent: CustomHelpMenuContent,
}
export default function CustomHelpMenuContentExample() {
return (
<div className="tldraw__editor">
<Tldraw components={components} />
</div>
)
}
```
We use a `components` prop with the combined editor and ui components.
- [ ] Create a "layout" component?
- [ ] Make UI components more isolated? If possible, they shouldn't
depend on styles outside of themselves, so that they can be used in
other layouts. Maybe we wait on this because I'm feeling a slippery
slope toward presumptions about configurability.
- [ ] OTOH maybe we go hard and consider these things as separate
components, even packages, with their own interfaces for customizability
/ configurability, just go all the way with it, and see what that looks
like.
# Pros
Top line: you can customize tldraw's user interface in a MUCH more
granular / powerful way than before.
It solves a case where menu items could not be made stateful from
outside of the editor context, and provides the option to do things in
the menus that we couldn't allow previously with the "schema-based"
approach.
It also may (who knows) be more performant because we can locate the
state inside of the components for individual buttons and groups,
instead of all at the top level above the "schema". Because items /
groups decide their own state, we don't have to have big checks on how
many items are selected, or whether we have a flippable state. Items and
groups themselves are allowed to re-build as part of the regular React
lifecycle. Menus aren't constantly being rebuilt, if that were ever an
issue.
Menu items can be shared between different menu types. We'll are
sometimes able to re-use items between, for example, the menu and the
context menu and the actions menu.
Our overrides no longer mutate anything, so there's less weird searching
and finding.
# Cons
This approach can make customization menu contents significantly more
complex, as an end user would need to re-declare most of a menu in order
to make any change to it. Luckily a user can add things to the top or
bottom of the context menu fairly easily. (And who knows, folks may
actually want to do deep customization, and this allows for it.)
It's more code. We are shipping more react components, basically one for
each menu item / group.
Currently this PR does not export the subcomponents, i.e. menu items. If
we do want to export these, then heaven help us, it's going to be a
_lot_ of exports.

Currently, only the end handles of the line tool snap. It should be all
of them.
Line handles work kind of weirdly at the moment: instead of just storing
the positions, we store full `TLHandle` objects complete with IDs,
`canSnap`/`canBind` properties, etc. Currently, all the handles get
written to the store with `canSnap: false`, when really it should be up
to the shape util to decide which handles are snappable.
This diff replaces the current handles map (from arbitrary ID to
`TLHandle`) with just the data we need: a map from index to x/y. The
extra information that the `Editor` needs for `TLHandle` is hydrated at
runtime (with `canSnap` set to `true` this time!)

- Simplify the contents of `TLLineShape.props.handles`
Currently, we type our fractional index keys as `string` and don't have
any validation for them. I'm touching some of this code for my work on
line handles and wanted to change that:
- fractional indexes are now `IndexKey`s, not `string`s. `IndexKey`s
have a brand property so can't be used interchangeably with strings
(like our IDs)
- There's a new `T.indexKey` validator which we can use in our
validations to make sure we don't end up with nonsense keys.

This PR revamps how errors in signia are handled.
This was brought about by a situation that @MitjaBezensek encountered
where he added a reactor to a shape util class. During fuzz tests, that
reactor was being executed at times when the Editor was not in a usable
state (we had a minor hole in our sync rebase logic that allowed this,
fixed elsewhere) and the reactor was throwing errors because it
dereferenced a parent signal that relied on the page state
(getShapesInCurrentPage or whatever) when there were no page records in
the store.
The strange part was that even if we wrapped the body of the reactor
function in a try/catch, ignoring the error, we'd still see the error
bubble up somehow.
That was because the error was being thrown in a Computed derive
function, and those are evaluated independently (i.e. outside of the
reactor function) by signia as it traverses the dependency graph from
leaves to roots in the `haveParentsChanged()` internal function.
So the immediate fix was to make it so that `haveParentsChanged` ignores
errors somehow.
But the better fix involved completely revamping how signia handles
errors, and they work very much like how signia handles values now. i.e.
- signia still assumes that deriver functions are pure, and that if a
deriver function throws once it will throw again unless its parent
signals change value, so **it caches thrown errors for computed values**
and throws them again if .get() is called again before the parents
change
- it clears the history buffer if an error is thrown
- it does not allow errors to bubble during dirty checking i.e. inside
`haveParentsChanged` or while calculating diffs.

This PR changes the way that viewport bounds are calculated by using the
canvas element as the source of truth, rather than the container. This
allows for cases where the canvas is not the same dimensions as the
component. (Given the way our UI and context works, there are cases
where this is desired, i.e. toolbars and other items overlaid on top of
the canvas area).
The editor's `getContainer` is now only used for the text measurement.
It would be good to get that out somehow.
# Pros

provide those bounds externally.

`Geometry2d.isSnappable` isn't used. There's some intended behaviour

don't think it's likely to be heavily depended upon

Biome as it is now didn't work out for us 😢
Summary for posterity:
* it IS much, much faster, fast enough to skip any sort of caching
* we couldn't fully replace Prettier just yet. We use Prettier
programmatically to format code in docs, and Biome's JS interface is
officially alpha and [had legacy peer deps
set](https://github.com/biomejs/biome/pull/1756) (which would fail our
CI build as we don't allow installation warnings)
* ternary formatting differs from Prettier, leading to a large diff
https://github.com/biomejs/biome/issues/1661
* import sorting differs from Prettier's
`prettier-plugin-organize-imports`, making the diff even bigger
* the deal breaker is a multi-second delay on saving large files (for us
it's
[Editor.ts](https://github.com/tldraw/tldraw/blob/main/packages/editor/src/lib/editor/Editor.ts))
in VSCode when import sorting is enabled. There is a seemingly relevant
Biome issue where I posted a small summary of our findings:
https://github.com/biomejs/biome/issues/1569#issuecomment-1930411623
Further actions:
* reevaluate in a few months as Biome matures

When we made context menu overrides, we introduced two new issues:
1. the context menu on the main app now updates much more frequently
than it should
2. every time it updates, it adds a new 'cursor chat' entry to the menu
This reverts the part of that change that made the context menu
reactive. This is the quick fix for us to hotfix, but i'm going to
follow this up by restoring that functionality without those issues.

This would happen when trying to translate a zero-width bound arrow.
### Change Type
- [x] `patch` — Bug fix
### Release Notes
- Fixes zero-width arrow NaN computation when moving the label.
Taking the opportunity for some last-minute low-consequence breaking
changes before 2.0, this diff does some prep work for adding a new
snapping API by making the distinction between the two types of snapping
a bit clearer and cleaning up some naming.
- `SnapManager` has had most of the actual snapping logic moved into two
properties: `shapeBounds` (for snapping shape bounds on translate and
resize) and `handles` (for snapping handles)
- `SnapLine`s are renamed to `SnapIndicator`s. The 'line' name was a bit
confusing because not all of these indicators are lines (the new vertex
snap type will be a single point)
I'm not too worried about this being a breaking change as it touches an
area of the API that I'd be very surprised if more than a couple of
people were using.

I went through the sync room code today while thinking about syncing. As
I worked through it, I added some comments etc for my own readability.
There is no change in how the code works.
There are a few functions declared in the body of `handlePushRequest`.
We might want to re-arrange things so that we're not re-declaring those

In short, we were being inconsistent with whether the

The `viewportPageBounds` describes the bounds of the component within
the browser's space. Its `x` and `y` describe the delta in browser space
between the top left corner of the **page** and the component. This is
not effected by scrolling.
The use's `screenPoint` describes the user's cursor's location relative
to the `viewportPageBounds`. Its `x` and `y` describe the delta in
browser space between the top left corner of the **component** and the

Previously, we were calling context menu `overrides` in a `useMemo`, so
they weren't updating reactively in the way that most of our other

so it updates reactively.
It also fixes some issues with testing the `<Tldraw />` component:
currently we get a lot of errors in the console about updates not being
wrapped in `act`. These are caused by the fill patterns at different
zoom levels popping in without us waiting for them. Now, we have a
helper for rendering the tldraw component that waits for this correctly
and stops the error.

In a previous PR, we improved logic for skipping virtual handles if a
handle's neighbor is too close to it. This PR improves this logic
further by testing against all other vertex handles, not just the
neighbors; and skipping tests against handles that are not vertices
(such as arrow text labels).
This PR also:
- removes some static cursors from `useCursors`
- adds a tiny bit of hover to text labels to differentiate them when
hovered

### Release Notes
- Fixed a bug with the mouse wheel effecting the pointer location when

This PR fixes a bug where you could lose focus of the editor, which
caused keyboard shortcuts to stop working.
The problem was this:
- The duplicate button can become disabled while you have it focused.
- This would shove focus back to the document body, and the editor would
lose focus.
- When we disable the button, we should keep focus in the editor
instead.
- This shouldn't interfere with a developer manually handling focus of
the editor themselves.
I applied the same fix to the undo, redo, delete and duplicate buttons.
**Is this is a bit hacky? Not sure if I'm handling those `ref`s
correctly? WDYT?**

This adds the ability to drag the label on an arrow to a different
location within the line segment/arc.
https://github.com/tldraw/tldraw/assets/469604/dbd2ee35-bebc-48d6-b8ee-fcf12ce91fa5
- A lot of the complexity lay in ensuring a fixed distance from the ends
of the arrowheads.
- I added a new type of handle `text-adjust` that makes the text box the
very handle itself.
- I added a `ARROW_HANDLES` enum - we should use more enums!
- The bulk of the changes are in ArrowShapeUtil — check that out in
particular obviously :)
Along the way, I tried to improve a couple spots as I touched them:
- added some more documentation to Vec.ts because some of the functions
in there were obscure/new to me. (at least the naming, hah)
- added `getPointOnCircle` which was being done in a couple places
independently and refactored those places.
### Questions
- the `getPointOnCircle` API changed. Is this considered breaking and/or
should I leave the signature the same? Wasn't sure if it was a big deal
or not.
- I made `labelPosition` in the schema always but I guess it could have
been optional? Lemme know if there's a preference.
- Any feedback on tests? Happy to expand those if necessary.

This PR fixes a few bugs with the "comma as pointer" feature.
In tldraw, the `,` key can be used as a replacement for "pointer down"
and "pointer up". This is most useful on laptops with trackpads that
make dragging inconvenient. (See
https://github.com/tldraw/tldraw/issues/2550).
Previously, the canvas had to be focused in order for the comma key to
work. If you clicked on a menu item and then pressed comma, it would not
product a pointer event until you first clicked on the canvas. This is
now fixed by moving the listener out of the `useDocumentEvents` and into
`useKeyboardShortcuts`.
### Change Type
- [x] `minor` — New feature
### Test Plan
1. Click the canvas.
2. Use the comma key to control pointer down / up.
3. Click a shape tool on the toolbar.
4. Move your mouse over the canvas.
5. Press the comma key. It should produce a dot / shape / etc
### Release Notes
- Improve comma key as a replacement for pointer down / pointer up.
A few things happening here
- Delete our service worker. Turns out that a couple of years back
browsers decided that a service worker is no longer required for a PWA
so you can just have the manifest and still install on the user's
device.
- Cache tldraw's assets as part of the dotcom vite asset pipeline. This
allows them to participate in the asset coalescing (preserving old
versions of asset files so old clients don't stop working when you
deploy new versions of things, see
https://github.com/tldraw/brivate/pull/3132 for more context).
- Add a new 'imports.vite.js' file to the assets package, because we
import a bunch of json translation files, and vite imports .json files
as parsed json objects instead of string urls, and there's no good way
to tell it not to. Even if there was we wouldn't want to impose that
config on our users. So another way to tell vite to load any asset as a
url string is to append `?url` to the end of the import path. That's
what this file does.

This essentially reverts the change from #1858 – it seems to be no
longer necessary after we applied the transforms to each overlay item
individually rather than applying a single transform to the outer
container.
This fixes an issue where at certain zoom levels, overlay elements would
disappear when their parent div/svg (that we use for positioning) went
offscreen while their overflowing contents (the stuff you could see) did
not.

1. Local images example should now work. We use images from the public

This PR adds the docs app back into the tldraw monorepo.
## Deploying
We'll want to update our deploy script to update the SOURCE_SHA to the
newest release sha... and then deploy the docs pulling api.json files
from that release. We _could_ update the docs on every push to main, but
we don't have to unless something has changed. Right now there's no
automated deployments from this repo.
## Side effects
To make this one work, I needed to update the lock file. This might be
ok (new year new lock file), and everything builds as expected, though
we may want to spend some time with our scripts to be sure that things
are all good.
I also updated our prettier installation, which decided to add trailing
commas to every generic type. Which is, I suppose, [correct
behavior](https://github.com/prettier/prettier-vscode/issues/955)? But
that caused diffs in every file, which is unfortunate.

### Release Notes
- Add a brief release note for your PR here.
This PR makes it so we don't bother measuring the max size of your
browser canvas - if you're manipulating an image that is relatively
small (ie: less than 8K resolution).
Closes#2433
@SomeHats I reckon this has some conflicts with your PR, #2441
## Why?
Calculating the max canvas size... takes a long time on some devices,
eg: Android Chrome.
Most of the time, you don't need such a big canvas anyway. When you're
exporting/importing a small image, we can assume that the max size will
be big enough (based on some testing
[here](https://github.com/jhildenbiddle/canvas-size?tab=readme-ov-file#test-results)).
So we don't need to bother in those cases - speeding up the operation.
If you're manipulating a larger image, we measure the max canvas size -
as before.
## Anything else?
This PR also moves the 'clamping' code to one place. Previously, it was
repeated in three places, and it was annoying having to update them all
at the same time.
## What's next?
Measuring for large images is still slow. We should look at how to make
that experience better. eg: Visual feedback that it's happening. eg: Try
not to block the main UI thread. eg: Can we do anything in parallel?

This is the first of a few diffs I'm working on to make dropping images
onto the canvas feel a lot faster.
There are three main changes here:
1. We operate on `Blob`s and `File`s rather than data urls. This saves a
fair bit on converting to/from base64 all the time. I've updated our
`MediaHelper` APIs to encourage the same in consumers.
2. We only check the max canvas size (slow) if images are above a
certain dimension that we consider "safe" (8k x 8k)
3. Switching from the `downscale` npm library to canvas native
downscaling. that library claims to give better results than the
browser, but hasn't been updated in ~7 years. in modern browsers, we can
opt-in to native high-quality image smoothing to achieve similar results
much faster than with an algorithm implemented in pure JS.
I want to follow this up with a system to show image placeholders whilst
we're waiting for long-running operations like resizing etc but i'm
going to split that out into its own diff as it'll involve some fairly
complex changes to the history management API.
### Change Type
- [x] `major` — Breaking change

### Test Plan
1. Tested manually, unit tests & end-to-end tests pass
This PR:
- shrinks the distance for edge scrolling and insets the distance for
coarse pointers
- adds edge inset tracking
## Scroll distances
Rather than increasing the distance, we move the "zero" in from the
edges, so that the middle of a honkin' fat finger would be at "zero"
when the edge of the finger is touching the edge of the screen. This is
a bit more reliable than looking at just the component size.
## Inset tracking
We now track whether a shape's edges are identical to the edges of the
document body. When an edge is inset, we extend the edge scrolling
distance outside of the component, so that dragging PAST the edge of the
component will scroll. When an edge is NOT inset, we bring that distance
into the component's bounds, so that dragging NEAR TO the edge will
begin to scroll.

### Test Plan
1. Use edge scrolling on mobile
2. Use edge scrolling on desktop
3. Use edge scrolling in the "scrolling example"

### Release Notes
- Add `instanceState.insets` to track which edges of the component are
inset from the edges of the document body.
- Improve behavior around edge scrolling
Looks like tests fail on `main` ([example of a
PR](https://github.com/tldraw/tldraw/actions/runs/7475025477/job/20342349739?pr=2438)
that should not be failing). This fixes them.
For some reason this [line didn't update
it](https://github.com/tldraw/tldraw/blob/main/scripts/lib/publishing.ts#L61).
Will look into it, but I guess we can merge this to unblock stuff.

In #2198, we introduced a regression on ios around image exports. ios
will block copys if they're not called syncronously in a UI event. It's
important to make ios copys like this:
```ts
navigator.clipboard.write(new ClipboardItem(getStuffToCopyAsAPromise())
```
instead of
```ts
getStuffToCopyAsAPromise().then(stuff => {
navigator.clipboard.write(new ClipboardItem(stuff))
})
```
We've written and fixed this bug a few times, which i think is because
of how our export/copy code is written: the formatting is interspersed
with interacting with the browser APIs, which makes it hard to change
one without accidentally affecting the other.
This diff fixes the bug, but also restructures our export/copy code: all
the formatting is handled by `exportToBlob` and related which just
return `Blob`s. This leaves `copyAs`, `exportAs` etc. to just handle
interacting with the browser APIs.

- Fix error in setStyleForNextSelectedShapes comment
Fixes an issue with frame clipping paths. In fact, this should also
solve other issues we might have with intersect. Seems like our
`pointInPolygon` did not correctly detect that points in the corners or
on the edges of the polygon are in fact part of the polygon.
When calculating the intersection of two regular, intersecting
rectangles the`intersectPolygonPolygon` was returning a polygon with 2,
3, or sometimes even 0 points, which also could result in an error when
dragging one frame out of another frame.
It seems that for all intents and purposes the `pointInPolygon` function
should also consider corners and edges, but maybe we might want to
rename it?

They show as a list on the index page, and on individual examples they
show in a three-js style sidebar. For now, this is disabled completely
on mobile. Examples can still be opened in 'standalone' mode to get rid
of the sidebar.
Note: the 'view code' link won't work until after these changes are
merged.
There's a small impact on authoring examples: each one needs to live in
a folder with a README.md. At a minimum, the readme needs to look like
this:
```md
---
title: My Example
component: ./MyExample.tsx
---
Here is a 1-liner about my example
```
Optionally, you can:
- Add `hide: true` to the frontmatter to remove the example from the
list (you can skip the description this way)
- Add `order: 3` to control the order in which the example appears.
They're alphabetical otherwise
- Add some more description or links to docs below a `---`. This won't
show in the listing, but will be visible on GitHub and on the example
page itself.
As a follow-up, I'd like to add an 'Open in CodeSandbox' link to each
example. These won't work until we've made a release with these examples
(as our special examples codesandbox is tied to our release process) but
the code is there & ready to go!
Have a play, let me know what you think!

### Release Notes
- Don't allow edges resizing on mobile. The only exception is a single
text shape.
When we handle pixel ratios in .png files, we were rounding the pixel
ratio to the nearest integer. This mean that if an image had a pixel
ration less than 0.5, it would get rounded to zero. This would cause a
divide-by-zero on the width & height of the image which would crash the
app.
This has a couple fixes:
- we ignore pixel ratios less that 1
- we perform rounding _after_ we apply the pixel ratio to the
width/height
